Mr. Narinder Singh belongs to a small village called Uchana, located in Karnal district, Haryana, India. He received his Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in the areas of human behavior and labor law. Despite his degree, he didn’t choose the service sector. Since he was a young child, he has been passionate about agriculture and related industries.
Sanjeevini Drug De-Addiction Center was where Mr. Singh started his career. After engaging in this job, he decided to go into agriculture and allied activities.
To improve his agricultural practices, he started meeting various people. During a training session in Pune, he widened his passion when he met Mr. Dharmpal, a horticulture officer. He purchased a pomegranate seedling after the session and planted it in his field.
He planted a variety of pomegranates across Haryana, and he is making a profit out of them. In order to expand the rice-wheat cropping technique, he started a horticulture nursery. He began cultivating horticultural crops such as mango, guava, pear, jamun, apple, litchi, peach, and so on.
In Haryana, he was the first person to start selling apples known as ‘Rana Gold Apples.” Also, he keeps 350 beehives, which produce 27 to 30 kg of honey. Further, he said, businesses working together in complementary and supplementary ways lead to higher profits for farmers.
He also started teaching other farmers about beekeeping and breeding. In 1992–23, as a part of the Narmada project, he also provided bee boxes to the government of Gujarat. As per his recommendation, keeping the bee boxes in orchards resulted in an increase in yield of 15 to 20%.
He received a Best Bee Keeper award from the National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal. Also, he received the Progressive Farmer Award from All India Radio.
His journey motivated other farmers and young people to more actively engage in the agriculture sector.
